Claude is the Chat engine over the Claude Code CLI, in Chat — /chat?engine=claude.

What it does

Streams chat over the Claude Code CLI and shows tool-use chips inline, plus cost, token and duration telemetry per turn. It is the most capable engine. Like every engine in Chat it has Chat / History / Workspace tabs and a right-side Settings panel; Claude additionally exposes a Sessions tab over the Claude Code CLI’s own session store.

Key actions

  • Model picker — Fable 5 / Opus 4.8 / Sonnet 5 / Haiku 4.5.
  • Effort level — set the reasoning effort for a turn.
  • Permission mode — control what the CLI is allowed to do.
  • Working directory — choose where the CLI operates.
  • Session resume — reopen a past thread; browse the CLI’s sessions from the Sessions tab.
  • Telemetry row — tokens and duration reported per turn.

Setup

Section titled “Setup”

Requires the Claude Code CLI (claude) installed and logged in. Check with command -v claude; log in by running claude once, or claude setup-token on a headless server. No .env.local key is needed — the CLI uses its own login. Claude also powers Loop, Pipeline (as the default global model), SEO-Forge, M-Forge Compose, OpenMontage and the AI Mastermind.

Tips

  • Chats append to your Obsidian vault under memories/, one markdown file per day.
  • To turn the Claude family off everywhere, use the Model Manager.
